We have expanded our Community Recycling Program!
Consumers are continuously upgrading to the newest and fastest electronic devices technology has to offer. What happens to the old electronics? Electronic wast or e-waste is the universal term referring to electronics that have reached the end of their life cycle. Over 2 million tons of e-waste is disposed of each year, making it one of the fastest growing contributors to our waste stream. Unfortunately, less than twenty percent is actually recycled. It is imperative e-waste be disposed of correctly since harmful components such as lead and mercury contained within electronics are toxic to the environment. In July, the Zoo will be expanding our Community Recyling Program. The new location is immediately to the right of the entrance to the Rainforest Pavilion.
New drop off location: Rainforest Pavilion

Aluminum: Beverage cans, gutter systems, house siding, and CLEAN aluminum foil.

EPS Foam (aka Styrofoam): Product packaging, take out containers, egg cartons, coffee cups, meat and produce trays and non-biodegradable packing peanuts.
CLEAN FOAM ONLY!
PEANUTS MUST BE CONTAINED IN A BAG OR BOX. Biodegradable peanuts contaminate the foam during processing. To avoid, make sure the peanuts are true foam by running one under water. The biodegradable peanuts will begin to dissolve immediately. We cannot accept these.
In addition to keeping e-waste out of the landfill, recycling electronics conserves valuable resources so raw materials aren't necessary in the makinig of new products.
Start saving electronics and metals now and drop them off during your next visit to the Zoo!
