Meet the Fossa!

Meet the Fossa!

So you ask, what is a fossa?

Fossa are not commonly found in zoos and the Zoo is one of less than 20 to care for them. They are the largest carnivores on the island of Madagascar and are excellent climbers, powerful hunters, and often hunt in the trees.  People will find them unusual as they somewhat resemble a cat, but are not part of the cat family.  Fossa are endangered and are more rare than tigers, with only 2,500 existing in the wild. Loss of habitat is the primary reason for their status in the wild.

So be sure to see the fossa on your next visit to the Zoo!!
