For those 18 yrs and older we offer two types of internship programs - College Credit and Life Experience.
College Internship Interns receive credit from their school by
participating in the three-month program and typically completing a
project or other requirement as determined by their school and the
Director of Animal Collections.

form. Applicants must also be able to provide proof of health
insurance, submit a letter expressing his/her interest and a
teacher/professor must provide a letter endorsing the student, verifying
the internship is for class credit and detailing the information the
student should be obtaining through the internship experience at the

Life Experience Internship
The Life Experience Internship is for individuals interested in
gaining experience in the zoo field or wanting to explore this career
path. This internship is not for school credit and anyone participating
must 18 years or older.
resume must be submitted along with a 300-word essay describing why
they wish to participate in the program, what their expectations are and
how they will benefit from the internship if selected for the program.
Applicants need two letters of reference (from an employer or teacher,
no personal references please), proof of health insurance and a
completed Zoo Volunteer Application form.
Life Experience internships are for three months and interns must be
available for a minimum of two days a week for 8 hrs a day. Accepted interns must submit to drug testing.

Internship programs run by semesters:
All materials must be submitted by the 15th of the month, a month and
a half prior to the desired semester (i.e. November 15th for a January

Job Shadow Opportunities
Job shadowing opportunities are available to students attending
middle school or high school and must be associated with class credit.
A job shadow experience is typically scheduled for a full day 8:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m., or a half day can be arranged. Students must submit all
of the following information at least two weeks prior to the desired
date in order to be eligible for consideration in our job shadowing
1. A letter from a teacher on school letterhead documenting that job
shadowing is for class credit, and an explanation detailing the
information the students should be obtaining from their experience.
2. Students must submit a letter expressing his/her interest in job shadowing and how they expect to benefit from this program.
3. A letter on school letterhead must be submitted stating the
school assumes all insurance liability for the students while shadowing
with the CFZ&BG.
4. The attached job shadow form should be completed.
5. The volunteer form and volunteer release should be completed and submitted online.
