The kookaburra is known for its characteristic laughing vocalization.  It has been used in jungle movie soundtracks even though the kookaburra is not found in the jungle.  It is the largest member of the kingfisher family making it a relative of our Florida belted kingfisher.  It eats a wide variety of prey from each of the five vertebrate classes.  With larger prey such as a snake, they will beat it on the ground or on a branch to kill it or make it tender.
