Scout Programs at the Central Florida Zoo

Brownie Girl Scouts
Brownies can earn an Animal Try-it badge or an Eco-Explorer Try-it badge. Participants are presented with a certificate. What kinds of animals make good pets? How many ways can animals move? How many animal sounds can you imitate? Discover this, and more, during the Animal Try-it program.

During the Eco-Explorer Try-it, you will explore nature at the Zoo, discover habitats and food webs, and learn many ways we can all be true Eco-Explorers at home. An added bonus of the Eco-Explorer program is that some Wildlife Watching Try-it activities will also be included.

Junior & Cadette Girl Scouts
Jr. Zoologist Patch Program
"What is it like to work at a zoo?" "Why are zoos important?" This exploration of zoos offers an in-depth look including a behind-the-scenes adventure, to enlighten on the importance of zoos and careers with animals. Your Zoo Adventure Guide will take you behind-the-scenes to see where animal diets are prepared and the animal medical building. Jr. Zoologist Zoo Patch presented to participants.

Ecology & Eco Action Patch Programs
Walk through natural areas where observation skills will be honed -- look and listen closely to the life that surrounds you during the Ecology Observation Adventure, followed by a Native Animal Scavenger Hunt. Identify the exciting discoveries and learn how to plan a backyard habitat.

Boy Scouts

"Animal Adventure" Program
This program will assist Tiger, Wolf and Bear Cub Scouts in completing a different achievement for each level. The boys will participate in activities, games and a wildlife trek through the Zoo to complete their official Animal Adventure Notebook. At the completion of the program, each boy will receive a signed certificate of completion.

Cub Scout Naturalist Badge
Webelos will participate in activities, games and a wildlife trek in the Zoo to complete four of the required activities to earn their Cub Scout Naturalist Badge. In completing the Wildlife Naturalist Notebook, the boys will be able to:

• Explain the difference between "poisonous" and "venomous"
• Identify poisonous plants found in Florida
• Describe several native species they've observed
• Explain and identify a bird flyway
• List several things a good naturalist should do when observing wildlife

Each boy will receive a certificate after completing the program. Badges are not available at the Zoo.

Create Your Own "Scout Venture"
Boy Scouts can earn one of several Merit Badges through hands-on learning activities. Custom-design a program to meet your needs -- focus on a particular wildlife subject, study zoology or ecology, combine real life applications of geography and natural science, experience an up-close native animal encounter -- you name it!
