The volunteer coordinator internship program is for individuals interested in gaining experience in the volunteer coordination, recruitment, retention, and event management field or individuals wanting to explore this career path. Volunteer coordinator interns will work as members of the Education Department team, including a wide array of opportunities to use academic skills in practical application.

It is preferred that interns be seeking school credit for this internship. Anyone participating must be 18 years or older.

 

 

 

 

 

Internship Priorities
 

As a team member, you will develop volunteer coordinator skills through the sharing and developing of ideas and protocols.

Duties will include the following:

  • Answering emails, phone calls and voicemail
  • Processing applications
  • Preparing materials and attending training sessions
  • Updating volunteer data/records, calendar, and task lists
  • Aid in project management of corporate volunteer groups and special event days at the Zoo
  • Prepare birthday, anniversary and special event cards
  • Most importantly, be a resource for volunteers!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Important Related Skills
 

Teamwork:
You will work with the Education Department team and be expected to function as a member of the team by contributing skills, ideas and solutions.

Project Management:
Know the importance of prioritizing and time management skills while working on event and volunteer projects in order to meet deadlines independently and as a team.

Adapting to Change:
Know how to be flexible by approaching each assignment with the understanding that objectives can change. An ability to adapt to new responsibilities is necessary.

Office Protocol:
Know the importance of how to conduct yourself in an office setting, including working with different departments, as well as knowledge of general office procedures.

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is a non-profit organization and the Volunteer Coordinator Internship is an uppaid internship, however it is an amazing opportunity to gain a wealth of experience!

Internship programs run by semesters:

  • January-April
  • May-August
  • September-December

Note: Applications are required at least two months in advance.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 15 hours per week is required. Days and times are flexible.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Current student or graduate
