Internships
For those 18 yrs and older. We offer to internship programs. One is for college credit (College Internship Opportunities). Interns receive credit from their school by participating in the three-month program and typically completing some sort of project or requirement determined by their school and the Zoo curator. Applicants must complete a Zoo Volunteer Application, provide proof of liability insurance, submit a letter expressing his/her interest and a teacher/professor must provide a letter endorsing the student, verifying the internship is for class credit and detailing the information the student should be obtaining through the internship experience at the zoo. Interns must be available a minimum of two days a week for 8 hr days. Internships generally last for three months. The second internship is the Life Experience Internship. This internship is for individuals looking for a career change or to gain experience working in a facility such as CFZP. This internship is not for school credit. A resume must be submitted along with a 300-word essay describing why they wish to participate in the program, what their expectations are and how they will benefit from the internship if selected for the program. Applicants need two letters of reference, proof of liability insurance and a completed Zoo Volunteer Form. Life Experience internships are for three months and interns must be available for a minimum of two days a week for 8hrs a day. FACILITIES MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY: This position will supervise facility maintenance, new construction projects and Horticulture and Landscaping. This is a WORKING manager position and the right candidate will manage and work alongside a team of 8 people.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES. The successful applicant must be versatile in a variety of skills associated with best practices in the maintenance and construction field. This position not only supervises but works along side of a team to insure work is conducted as planned, with an emphasis on workplace safety. The applicant must be detailed oriented and capable of mentoring employees under his/her supervision.
General tasks include the maintenance of all physical aspects of the zoo including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, welding, landscape, horticulture and waste removal. Number one job responsibility will be to improve the overall look and feel of the park. Must be able to use initiative to see problems and fix them without being told as well as work on assigned tasks as prioritized by the Zoo Management. Must able to operate gas and electric hand tools, motorized equipment, mowers, tractor, and a backhoe. Must be an enthusiastic team oriented personality that works approximately 90% of the time along side employees to accomplish prioritized tasks. Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to establish work priorities and regimens effectively.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position will report to the Director of Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma and five years of successful employment in the field with an emphasis on supervision and hands on general maintenance.

ANIMAL KEEPER - BIRD
JOB SUMMARY: Provides husbandry and maintenance protocols for the bird collection.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES.
1. Responsible for the husbandry and well-being of all specimens allocated to the Bird Department. This includes diet preparation and presentation, enclosure maintenance and sanitation, with some construction to maintain exhibits and isolation areas in a sound and aesthetic fashion.
2. Must have a working knowledge of avian biology with an emphasis on species held in the collection.
3. Capable of perceiving changes in an animal's behavior which may indicate signs of illness. Be able to provide medical care and administration of drugs under the direction of the Veterinarian, Director of Operations and the Zoo Curator. Assists in the capture, restraint, and presentation of specimens for veterinary review. Evaluates animal’s response to suggested therapy.
4. Responsible for preparations and requirements for the breeding success of species in the Bird Department. This includes monitoring reproductive activity and behavior, evaluation of problems, and may include artificial incubation and hand raising of chicks.
5. Once trained, must be able to perform all daily routine duties required by the department.
6. Must develop a work routine and promote a working philosophy which emphasizes safety on the job. Should be continuously monitoring and evaluating potential dangers to animals, staff, and the visiting public.
7. Must be capable of interacting with co-workers and the public in a professional and constructive manner. Will be required to assist with projects in other animal areas. Public speaking and participation in educational demonstrations and event programs is required. Must be able to present a courteous and professional public image.
8. Must be in sound health and be capable of safely performing strenuous physical labor and lifting.
9. Will work on a rotating weekly schedule with work to commence by 0800 hours and end by 1700 hours to accomplish a 40 hour work week. (All hours are subject to change)
10. Other duties as required by the Zoo Curator and the Director of Operations.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position will report to the Zoo Curator and the Director of Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS: A degree in biological science is preferred with one year experience in a Zoo setting.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
JOB SUMMARY: This position will perform daily requirements of the Maintenance Department and assist in the completion of all assigned tasks.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES.
Position involves use of hand and power tools to make repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and masonry areas. Must be versatile in maintenance field. Shall be responsible for making changes in exhibits as required. Will work hand in hand with Keeper Staff on occasion. Must operate motorized equipment, mowers, backhoe, trencher. Some welding required. Operation of all grounds maintenance equipment, riding and hand operated as well as maintenance of mowing equipment. Operation of chain saw, bush and tree trimming, building and making fence repairs and assisting Maintenance Supervisor in other duties as required.
Employee shall make use of all safety equipment during work details and work in a manner that assures a safe working environment.
Employee shall at all times present a neat appearance and perform all duties in a neat and courteous manner. Employee shall be required to record attendance at work as determined by the supervisor through the use of the department time clock.
This employee may be assigned other duties not specifically detailed above from time to time. The first three months of employment shall be considered a introductory period. A written review and evaluation shall be made at the end of the introductory period by immediate supervisor.
Employee shall have no direct contact with the animals.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma and three years general maintenance experience required.
